TAMU Accelerator Laboratory

Texas A&M University College of Engineering

People – Who are We?

The laboratory is supervised by Dr. Lin Shao, a Professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering. The laboratory has one full-time technician, Xuemei Wang, who has more than 30 years of accelerator experience, and 12 graduate students (as of 2023). All students were (or will be) trained as certified accelerator “operators,” allowing for their independent operation of the accelerator. A few selected students have additional training in accelerator “sources,” allowing for independent maintenance of ion sources involving Cs and Rb. The number of active graduate students has varied over the past 14 years, ranging from 10 to 18. The laboratory has one senior research scientist, Frank Garner. The laboratory includes another senior faculty member, Dr. Michael Nastasi, a professor in the Department of Nuclear Engineering.
